MAY 29 1913 Tumultuous premiere of Igor Stravinsky’s “The Rite of Spring” at the Théatre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, performed by Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes company. The original choreography was by Vaslav Nijinsky, with stage designs and costumes by Nicholas Roerich. Pierre Monteux was the conductor.
